Teaching Philosophy
My approach to teaching is a multi-sensory approach paired with technology and interactive opportunities. As the world of technology is everchanging, I must continue to educate alongside these advances to maintain retention, increase interest, and satisfy students' desire for learning. One of the best outcomes from this approach leads to one of the core beliefs of my teaching, which is educators are more effective when they are mentors and role models. Teaching through application-based learning allows students to see me as an occupational therapist, just as they are soon to become. This allows for the room to be a safe environment where questions and practical learning take place in every single lecture, whether the main topic is of high interest to the student or not. When students are engaged, they are more inclined to ask questions and find themselves in a place of deeper understanding. This also allows students to see the educators as a mentor in their journey to becoming occupational therapists. Being a mentor with whom students can ask questions, be quizzed on real-life situations, and dialogue with on everyday occupational therapy situations brings students to understand the benefits and commitment of becoming lifelong learners as occupational therapists.
