Research Statement

Dr. Godin has been the principal investigator on a number of funded intervention, epidemiologic research and program evaluation projects.  Additionally, he has had various consulter roles in program development and evaluation research with community-based organizations.  Over the past 37+ years (1986-2023), Dr. Godin has been the recipient of 65 grants/contracts and 19 subcontracts resulting in over $23.5 million in funding to conduct population-based public health programs, prevention-oriented research, epidemiologic gap analyses, and program evaluation studies.   Presently, he is the principal investigator on a children’s oral health literacy and behavior assessment, and serves as an author/co-author and external evaluator for various prevention initiatives.

Dr. Godin has a diverse applied research background that can be summarized with the following themes: 1) development and evaluation of chronic disease prevention programs, social marketing efforts in disease prevention, and health and mental health literacy interventions; 2) accountable health communities, organizational networks and collective impact; and 3) inter-disciplinary approaches to improve capacity of mental health and substance use disorder service infrastructure.
