Biography

Mariah Cowell Mercier is a Research Analyst and Doctoral Candidate in the College of Social Work at the University of Utah. Her research focuses primarily on diversion and divestment from the criminal legal system, the impacts of hyper-incarceration and community-based violence prevention. Mariah currently works as a research assistant with Dr. Emily Salisbury in the Utah Criminal Justice Center.

Before arriving at the University of Utah, Mariah worked with interdisciplinary research teams at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the School of Social Work and the School of Social Medicine. Her work experience focused on the implemention and evaluation of interventions focusing on health disparities, substance use and mental health within the criminal legal system.
