Research Statement
I am educational sociologist, committed to engaged scholarship conducted in partnership with families, schools, and communities. My research focuses on the interrelationships between educational institutions and the communities of which they are a part. I am interested in “how” questions that open up possibilities for change — how communities that have faced marginalization and oppression in schools can build power and transform our education systems. Specific topics include: communithy-campus partnerships, hyperlocal community engagement, evaluation of community engagement, K-12 family-school-community partnerships; engaged research methods; and culturally sustaining approaches to education and social change.
