Biography

 

Chris DuVal is a faculty member of the Actor Training Program, a regional theatre actor and fight director. Previously he served as an Assistant Professor and the Head of BFA/MFA Performance at the University of Idaho, where he directed and taught courses in acting, voice, and movement. Additionally, he has been a guest artist / instructor at such universities as North Carolina School of the Arts, Stanford University, San Jose State University, Southern Utah University, Southern Oregon University, California Institute of Technology, Chapman University, Pomona College, and California State University Fresno, among others.
 
As both an AEA actor and fight director, Chris has been a company member at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 17 years, acting, teaching and fight directing for such productions as Great Expectations, River Bride, The Heart of Robin Hood, Troilus and Cressida, The Three Sisters, The Cherry Orchard, The Trip to Bountiful, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, Henry V, Love’s Labor’s Lost, The Tempest, Othello, Henry VI Parts I, II, and III. He has also acted and fight directed at such venues as the Dallas Theatre Center, Sacramento Theatre Company, Laguna Playhouse, Shakespeare Orange County (3 seasons), Utah Shakespeare Festival (4 seasons), Syracuse Stage, Idaho Repertory Theatre, and in South Coast Repertory’s US Premiere of She Stoops to Folly and the World Premiere of Wit.
 
Chris is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, a Senior Level Instructor of Theatrical Combat with Dueling Arts International, an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, and holds a 2nd degree black belt in Aikido. He received a B.A. in Theatre Arts from California State University, Fullerton and an M.F.A. in Acting from the University of California, Irvine.
