Teaching Philosophy

I aim to teach course content in a clear and structured manner by providing varied learning experiences for students of diverse learning styles, abilities and social/ethnic backgrounds. In particular, I believe it is important to foster a sense of competence, autonomy and relatedness (i.e., interconnectedness) in students through a variety of educational approaches that inspire their sense of imagination and creativity. Currently, I employ pedagogical techniques that involve the practice of “doing” sport and exercise psychology through a variety of “hands-on” learning activities (e.g., involvement in motivation experiments, memory and cognition tests under various arousal conditions). These activities are designed to provide students with experiential knowledge in addition to theoretical discussion of topics.  Ultimately, I truly believe that as a teacher I must convey my enthusiasm and interest in the subject matter if students are to be engaged with the learning material.

Courses I Teach

  • 3340 - Sport Psychology
    This course examines psychological theories and research related to sport behavior. The course is designed to introduce you to the field of sport psychology by providing a broad overview of major topics in the area. A primary focus will be on the application of psychological theory to sport and exercise professions such as coaching, athletic training, teaching, health education, or exercise leadership. It is anticipated that you will have developed an interest in further study in this area.
