Biography
John Gordon is an Assistant Professor with the David Eccles School of Business in the Operations & Information Systems Department. John is also an Interdisciplinary Adjunct Faculty member in the College of Humanities. John is also a doctoral candidate in the College of Humanities, Department of Writing & Rhetoric. His doctoral research interests include Code Studies, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Software Engineering, Programming Languages and the History of Computing.
Background:
Military Service: 12 Years: United States Air Force (USAF) active duty, honorably discharged at the rank of E6 Technical Sergeant. Gulf War veteran. Served in the positions of Law Enforcement Officer, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Traffic Accident Investigator, Engineering Assistant, NCO Leadership School Instructor, and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) Engineering Division.
Computing Industry Experience: 40 Years: Held key positions with local, national, and international organizations in the commercial, non-profit, and government sectors, including the United States Air Force, United Way, US District Court District of Utah, Franklin Capital Corporation, 1-800 Contacts, Transportation Insight, Siskin Enterprises, University of Utah, Global Drug Testing Laboratories, Complete Recovery Corporation, Extraspace Management, Eide Bailly, and the Scientific Computing & Imaging Institute. Primary roles within these organizations included Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Senior Database Administrator (DBA), Senior Software Engineer, Senior Systems Administrator, Senior Data Engineer, Data Analytics Consultant, Business Intelligence Developer, and Software Development Manager.
