Biography
Douglas Routh is an Assisant Professor (Lecturer) in the Department of Sociology at the University of Utah. He received his PhD, Masters' and both Bachelors' degrees all from Washington State University. His work has primarily focused on corrections with emphasis on 1) risk-needs assessment tools and 2) strategies for population management and connecting individuals to treatment, services, and resources. While continuing to teach at a prior University, Doug worked outside of the criminal justice field in the software and technology industry bringing research advancements to life via software for several state Department of Corrections across the U.S. and individual jurisidctions. He has incorporated a more interdisciplinary approach to include the intersection of healthcare, public health, technology, implementation science, and criminal justice. Specifically, his more recent work has focused on identifying and addressing barriers to healthcare and treatment access experienced by justice-involved populations through telehealth or other technology-based interventions and efforts to improve provision, matching, initiation, retention, and completion of services.
Doug's scholarly work has appeared in Justice Quarterly, Health & Justice, Criminal Justice & Behavior, Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, and International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology. Doug has also authored and co-authored several technical reports provided to several treatment programs such Family and Drug Court Programs, Re-entry Services Programs, Correctional Treatment Programs, and Correctional Agencies for both adults and juveniles.
When not in front of a computer working or teaching online courses, Doug can typically be found outdoors year-round. Or, Doug can also be found perched on his comfortable couch watching sports, documentaries, or anything interesting, nerding out playing video games, or reading comics or other adventure or science fiction books.
