My Current Work:

As a general advisor in the Academic Advising Center, I am an advisor who “knows at least a little bit about every undergraduate academic program on campus,” as I often tell students. This affords me the unique joy of connecting with a wide variety of students across differing interests, goals, and experiences. Since I work mainly with exploring students, as well as declared students navigating the Academic Standards process, the vast majority of my appointments are with students who I will meet only get to meet once. Because of this, I focus intently on building meaningful trust with students on an abbreviated timeline, a priority that is especially important when navigating the heavy conversations that can come up when discussing academic obstacles.

As an Academic Standards (AS) advisor, I am part of a team that manages the academic standings for all 26,000+ undergraduate students at the University. In particular, the majority of our work is with students who have experienced academic difficulty and are not currently in Good Academic Standing according to University policy (GPA under 2.0). I work with students across every level of Academic Standards—from students who are still in Good Standing but are concerned about their performance, to students assessing their options after Suspension. At every stage, I aim to support students by: helping them to navigate any barriers they are facing, serving as an empathetic and non-judgemental listener, and reinforcing the fact that they are so much more than their academic record.

Additional Background:

I began my career with the University of Utah after earning my M.Ed. in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin in 2020. While pursuing my masters, I served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graduate Program Coordinator at the Longhorn Center for Academic Equity within UT Austin’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement. Prior to my graduate studies, I worked as an Admission Counselor at my undergraduate alma mater, Hendrix College, a small liberal arts school in Arkansas. There, I earned a B.A. in Spanish and Psychology in 2015.

Throughout my experience in higher education, I have so loved getting to be part of each student’s unique journey. Outside of work, I am an avid podcast listener who is always on the hunt for the next great dog park to explore with my wife and our sweet Doberman mix, June!
