Dr. Stillwell studies the norms and stereotypes that maintain group distinctions and inequality. She has recently published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology on gendered backlash against women in interracial relationships. Other projects investigate the influence of shared racial group membership on backlash towards female leaders, backlash towards women making harassment claims, stereotyping in high conflict nations, and the impact of racial incivility in the workplace.
