Research Summary

David Woo's research examines school leadership policy with a focus on leadership preparation and early career school leaders. He is also interested in school leadership in charter schools especially as it relates to the relationship between charter school management and teacher labor. Some of David's current research examines the duties of assistant principals, the factors that predict early career principal performance, and collective bargaining and unionization in charter schools.

Biography

David Woo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy at the Univeristy of Utah. Before starting his career in higher education, he worked as a high school English teacher on Chicago’s south side for six years. While working as a teacher and grade level lead, he grew interested in the influence of school leadership and policy on educational outcomes for students of color. His research focuses on school leadership policy especially as it relates to the preparation and early careers of school leaders. David has been recognized as an emerging scholar by AERA’s Education Law SIG, and he is an alumnus of both the Jackson Scholars and Clark Seminar programs.
