Research Summary

I am an historian of US education. I study the African American experience, teacher and student activism, school desegregation, curriculum and pedagogy, and the American high school. My first book, Protest and Pedagogy, examines how African American teachers and students propelled and sustained the Black freedom struggle in Charlottesville, Virginia during the twentieth century.
