Research Summary
My research group is dedicated to advancing engineering system applications with high social impacts and public benefits. Current research aims at answering emerging challenges to decentralizing and networking control systems. We are interested in developing new control and optimization frameworks to facilitate power system decarbonization and decentralization, advance transactive energy market, and promote the security and resilience of cyber-physical systems.
Biography
Mingxi Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah. His broad research interests include control theory and optimization, and their applications in power and energy systems, smart grid, and cyber-physical systems.
Before joining University of Utah, Dr. Liu was an NSERC Postdoc Fellow with Energy & Resources Group at University of California, Berkeley. He received the Ph.D. and M.A.Sc degrees in mechanical engineering from University of Victoria, Canada in 2016 and 2012, respectively. He obtained B.Eng. degree in control sciences and engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, China in 2010.
Dr. Liu received NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship and NSERC PostGraduate Scholarship-Doctoral from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada in 2016 and 2014, respectively. He is an active reviewer for Proceedings of the IEEE, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, etc. Dr. Liu is a Member of IEEE. He serves in the IEEE-IES Technical Committee on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems.
