Research Statement

My collaborative research on ancient Roman concretes, their very young geologic analog at Surtsey volcano in Iceland, and their experimental reproductions with reactive glass aggregates provides an interdisciplinary foundation for the development of environmentally-friendly concretes that employ the "scientia" of Roman engineers and synchrotron applications in beamline science to create new classes of lime-based cementitious materials in architectural and maritime structures.
