The goal of the tool is that it will become the hub for art song discovery, as a comprehensive catalogue of all recital appropriate repertoire that is extensively internally cross-referenced and externally linked.
Currently 7,000 unique song entries with robust metadata.
Currently 15,000 unique keywords.
Functioning Advisory and Editorial Boards.
SongHelix is an online search tool that enables users to access the vast repertoire of classical songs and draw novel connections between individual songs based on their music, poetry, origin, and authorship. The tool’s primary purpose is to serve as the gateway to the discovery of the Art Song—a specific vocal music composition, usually written for one voice with piano accompaniment and set to a poem, and intended for recital performance—thereby facilitating the work of humanities scholars, including musicologists, cultural historians, and literary scholars, as well as voice teachers and voice students. The most comprehensive of its kind, SongHelix is a tool with a robust search and filter that reveal each song’s “DNA” through a myriad of metadata. SongHelix makes it possible to access thousands of songs, discover works outside the popular canon, and explore commonalities and relationships between lesser known compositions and so-called masterpieces.
