### Research Summary

My expertise is in commutative algebra. I have also been working extensively on applications of commutative algebra to modular representation theory of finite groups and group schemes, and more generally to the representations of finite dimensional algebra. I recent years, I have been collaborating with some colleagues in algebraic number theory on some applications of commutative algebra in that domain.

### Education

### Biography

Srikanth Iyengar grew up in Hyderabad, India, and was granted a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science, by the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras, a city now known as Chennai, in South India. Having learnt a lesson, he decided to study Mathematics, and earned an M.S. (1994) and a Ph. D. (1998) from Purdue University, West Lafayette. Then followed a three year stint as a post-doctoral fellow: the first year at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and the remaining two at the University of Sheffield, in the U.K. He returned to the University of Missouri-Columbia as a tenure-track faculty in 2001. He had his (probably) last fling as a postdoc at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, where he spent the Spring semester of 2003. Ater a long stint at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he joined the Department of Mathematics at the Univeristy of Utah in 2014.

Srikanth's main research interest is commutative algebra, but he often borrows techniques from algebraic topology and representation theory. He has also returned that favor by applying ideas from commutative algebra to solve problems arising in the modular representation theory of finite groups, and more general finite dimensional algebras. He was awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Prize (2007) by the Humboldt Foundation, and was a Simons Fellows in Mathematics in the academic year 2012-13. He was invited by the Istituto Nazionale d' Alta Matematica, Italy, to give one of plenary lectures at the INdAM Day 2012, held on June 2012 in the city of Genova, Italy.
