Research Summary

Dr. Moore leads the Geohazards research group at the University of Utah, which focuses on studies of the mechanics of physical processes driving natural hazards and shaping the evolution of bedrock landscapes. The group relies heavily on field observations and monitoring data to address problems relating to rock mechanics, slope stability, and alpine geomorphology, with special emphasis on structural health monitoring of rock arches, towers, and other freestanding rock landforms.

Biography

Dr. Jeffrey Moore is a professor of Geology & Geophysics at the University of Utah. His research interests focus on processes controlling rock slope failure, in-situ and remote monitoring techniques for state-of-health sensing, and investigating the hazard and impacts of large landslides. Dr. Moore spent several years studying rock slope hazard assessment and monitoring at ETH Zurich in Switzerland after completing his PhD in 2007 at the University of California, Berkeley.
