Teaching Philosophy

Before I can teach others I must first prepare myself to be a knowledgeable, expert and skilled role model. That is how I will make the greatest impact on students and their learning progression.

I believe that teaching is a privilege. As a teacher I am placed in a position of high accountability, trusted with the future potentials of the individuals in my class. In order to teach effectively I must first seek to understand each student and then plan lessons that teach on a continuum ensuring that each student is touched with the learning for their individual needs. I believe as the teacher I am also the learner.

I understand that each of us has a unique learning style. That is why it is important that I prepare and teach using a variety of techniques and methods including demonstrations, activities, lectures, writing, questioning, discussions, art, and practice, visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, and spiritual modes.

Being aware of my own learning style helps me remember that I need to bring in not only teaching strategies that appeal to my learning but that also meet the diverse learning needs of the students in my class.

To do this each time I teach I must bring in multiple teaching techniques which will increase the chances of meeting student needs.
