Biography

Dr. Curtis Newbold is a Clinical Associate Professor of Strategic Communication and is a passionate educator, speaker, and award-winning corporate consultant. His work involves the research, practice, and intersections between business, professional, visual, and strategic communication. Dr. Newbold has developed and taught over 40 different communication courses at universities in the U.S., China, and the Utah Asia Campus (UAC) in South Korea. In a previous role, he led graduate student strategic communication projects for non-profit organizations in Iceland, Morocco, South Africa, Peru, and Hungary. 

Dr. Newbold has delivered over 200 live trainings, webinars, and workshops for several multinational companies and government organizations including Indeed.com; O'Reilly Media; Discover Financial Services; and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. He is co-author of the textbook Business and Professional Communication: A Human-Centered Approach (Sage, 2025); he has published in peer-reviewed journals on topics ranging from information design to self-directed learning; and he is the developer and chief content architect for the popular blog, TheVisualCommunicationGuy.com. Dr. Newbold currently serves as the faculty advisor for the U of Utah Chapter for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). He holds a PhD in Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design (RCID) from Clemson University.
