Research Summary

Dr LaStayo is focused on rehabilitation research in the areas of aging, muscle, mobility and human performance; specifically how muscle and mobility changes and how these changes help or hinder physical functioning in daily life, across the lifespan, following injury or disease, and in sport. Dr LaStayo's research also encompasses the specialty areas of upper and lower extremity rehabilitation. Federal funding which supports his work stems from the NIA, NCI, NINDS, NINR.

Research Statement

The Skeletal Muscle Exercise Research Facility (SMERF), directed by Dr LaStayo is focused on neuromuscular and rehabilitation principles designed to improve physical performance and quality of life in impaired, needy patient populations.
