Research Summary

My research concerns Chinese philosophy, Greek philosophy, and ethics. On the Chinese side, I focus on the pre-Qin period, especially Confucianism. On the Greek side, I focus on the moral/political views of Plato and Aristotle. My work on ethics proceeds largely via studying past thinkers, but is also both informed by and engages with modern normative theory: e.g., my publications have explored how contemporary virtue ethics may assist but also benefit from the study of ancient Chinese views.
