Advanced Reading Assess-Intervention

This continuing education course is designed to help educators develop in-depth theoretical and practicum knowledge of effective research-based assessment and intervention for beginning readers at-risk for reading failure. For normally-achieving readers, these phases occur during kindergarten and 1st grade; however, many struggling readers in older grades maintain similar behaviors as a result of environmental and/or neurobiological problems. -

This course satisfies the Reading Practicum K-3 requirement for Elementary Education, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education majors. It supplements ED PS 5315/Reading Methods K-3 and is a pre-requisite for EDU 5321/Reading Practicum 4-6. -

Tier III Intervention for Severe Rdg Difficulties
This credit/non-credit or letter-grade continuing education graduate course is made possible through the Eccles Foundation, Crawford Foundation and the University of Utah Reading Clinic. The Wilson® Level II Steps 7-12 Practicum is intended to build on knowledge and skills gained in the Wilson Reading System Level I Practicum by further preparing the participant to effectively implement a multisensory structured language reading program with at least one student reading and spelling below grade level, or one diagnosed with a language-based learning disability.
