Teaching Philosophy

“The great end of education is to discipline rather than to furnish the mind; to train it to the use of its own powers, rather than fill it with the accumulation of others ”. I believe that a teacher is not a giver of knowledge but rather a facilitator or a guide empowering students to take responsibility for their learning, to sharpen critical thinking skills and to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning. My favorite form of teaching is the Socratic method. I strive to apply its principles through interactive, problem-solving discussion and small group activities in the larger classroom. I am eager to experiment with new developments in instructional technology to accommodate the diversity of learning styles. As a teacher in the “health sciences” I am also striving to be a role model in regards to a health promoting life style and I want students to feel personally changed by their participation in my courses.
