Research Statement

My research group focuses on identifying and characterizing novel functions of platelets in human disease, which include reprogramming of mRNA and protein signatures, mRNA translation, pre-mRNA splicing and interactions of platelets with leukocytes.  My program has been continuously supported by the NIH/NHLBI since 1997 and to date, we have published 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and reviews.  We are recognized leaders in the thromboinflammation research community, especially in relationship to how blood cells contribute to cardiovascular and infectious disease. Our work extends from the bench into the clinical arena where we use a variety of in vivo genetic mouse models, in vitro human model systems, and patient samples to study novel gene expression pathways in megakaryocytes and platelets.
