Teaching Philosophy

My overarching goal as a teacher is to facilitate the student’s development as a critical thinker. As part of that goal, I believe that I should be stimulating the student to be a proactive, analytical learner for the rest of his/her life. That is, for any given course there are underlying concepts and critical facts that must be presented to the student in a manner that allows comprehension of the material. However, no field of study is static and the student should come to the realization that the learning process must be constant. Furthermore, the student should also develop an appreciation for the notion that statements of “fact” should not be consumed in an unthinking fashion.
