Biography

David ElHalta is an experienced pharmacist and informatics specialist with a strong background in pharmacy practice, healthcare information technology, and biomedical informatics. He is currently serving as an Informatics Pharmacist and Clinical Preceptor at the University of Utah Health, where he has been building pharmacy services in multiple hospitals and clinics, as well as partner Epic Connect sites in multiple states.
 
David has a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Wayne State University and a Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Pharmacogenomics from the University of Florida.
 
In addition to his work in pharmacy practice and informatics, David is also an experienced educator, having served as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy since 2018. He has also taught Total Parenteral Nutrition Lectures at the University of Utah College of Health from 2010 to 2013 and currently teaches Healthcare Informatics at the University of Utah - College of Pharmacy.
 
David has published numerous papers and presentations, including "The potential for leveraging machine learning to filter medication alerts" in JAMIA in 2022, "A Pragmatic Guide to Establishing Clinical Decision Support Governance and Addressing Decision Support Fatigue: a Case Study" in AMIA Annu Symp Proc in 2018, and "The Pharmacist and the EHR" in JAMIA in 2016.
 
David has been recognized for his contributions to the field, having received the Preceptor Excellence Award in 2018. He holds several licenses and certifications, including Willow Inpatient Certification – Epic, sterile compounding certification, non-sterile compounding certification, Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Certificate from Harvard Medical School, and a Pharmacogenomics Certificate from the University of Colorado.
 
David is also an active member of various committees and organizations, including the Adverse Drug Reaction Hospital Committee, Best Practice Advisory Committee, Clinical Decision Support Committee, and Medication Error (RL6) Committee at the University of Utah Health. He is also a committee member of the CPIC and a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity.
 
David's expertise in pharmacy practice, healthcare information technology, and biomedical informatics make him a valuable member of the faculty at the University of Utah.
