Human Growth & Development
This course focuses on application of growth and development concepts to health promotion and care giving. Health and care giving are issues of everyday life. The study of growth and development can help caregivers to know a person more thoroughly and thereby become better caregivers than assisting individuals without such information guiding their interactions. Various theories of development areexplored and provide a basis for understanding people of all ages. Various developmental tracks are followed from birth to later life such as brain development, motor development, language, and cognitive capacities and skills. There is an emphasis on physical growth and discernable milestones or predictable events that define growth, in order to aid recognition when deviation from normal is significant. Appropriate health promotion at various stages of the lifecycle is stressed. Examples of this are seen in the lectures on infants and young children with emphasis on injury control, and adolescent suicide prevention. Understanding individuals at different levels of development and the influence of the ecological systems surrounding the person will help the caregiver to communicate with individuals on a much deeper level of understanding. -

Principles of Clinical Mgmt 1
The first of three courses that integrates the health-illness continuum across the lifespan, including introductory principles of pathophysiology, pharmacology, genetics and the nursing process as a basis for clinical reasoning. This course will also introduce the use of health information in the provision, management and coordination of care. -

Principle of Clinical Mgmt 2
The second of three courses integrates the health-illness continuum across the lifespan, including principles of pathophysiology, pharmacology, genetics and the nursing process as a basis for clinical reasoning. Complex concept exemplars related to the care of adult and pediatric patients in the acute care setting will also be discussed. -

Chronic care exemplars from pediatric, adult and geriatric populations focus on care of the patient across multiple settings. -
