Biography
Dr. Cynthia Sanders, PhD, MSW Cynthia Sanders is Associate Professor and Online Program Director in the University of Utah College of Social Work. Prior to joining the College of Social Work, she was a Professor at Boise State University School of Social Work. She is also a Faculty Associate with the Center for Social Development at Washington University in St. Louis.
She earned her PhD in social work from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri and earned bachelor’s degree in economics and political science and her master of social work from the University of Utah.
Dr. Sanders' research interests and publishing focus on community based anti-poverty programs and policies to promote financial inclusion through asset building and financial capability initiatives. Much of her recent research examines the role of financial factors in intimate partner violence and initiatives to promote financial capability among survivors, including financial education, Individual Development Accounts, economic advocacy and empowerment. She has largely taught in the areas of social welfare policy, macro practice, and research/evaluation.
