Biography

I received my PhD training from Virginia Tech in nuclear engineering, specifically focusing on particle transport method development and its applications. I am experienced on using most of the particle transport code, including Monte Carlo, deterministic, and hybrid approaches, which include MCNP5/6, PENTRAN, SCALE6, SERPENT, TITAN, and RAPID. I am currently working as a research scientist at the University of Utah Nuclear Engineering Program (UNEP), Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN) since October 2019. My job duty includes:

1.     Heavily involved in analysis and development activities using PENTRAN and its utility codes. Very frequent communication between my supervisor and myself on the development and analysis activities.

2.     Perform University of Utah TRIGA (UTRIGA) reactor core computational analysis using MCNP6 and PENTRAN, including criticality analysis, sample irradiation, and administrative (U.S. NRC 50.59) analysis using the Utah Center for High Performance Computation (CHPC) resources.

3.     Perform computational and/or experimental dose rate evaluation for various radiation sources, including PuBe/AmBe at the UNEP facility and a calibration 137Cs source shielding design for Radiation Safety Office (RSO) at the University of Utah.

4.     Perform High Purity Germanium (HPGe) detector efficiency characterization using both experiment and computation.

5.     Participate neutron radiography facility design/analysis and necessary administrative paper work required by the U.S. NRC.

6.     Teaching graduate level NUCL 7000 – Health Physics class assigned by the CVEEN chairman

7.     Participate/Initiate research grant proposal writing with cross-department collaborations

8.     Writing journal articles and conference papers

9.     Participating the UTRIGA reactor operation, sample irradiation, and biannual fuel inspection

10.  Participating UNEP facility research and administrative activities

11.  Guide graduate students’ research and provide both technical help and training sessions. At the same time, I kept frequent communication with graduate students’ primary advisor to make sure the consistency of their direction.

Thus far, my work since I joined the UNEP program has turned into 1 journal article submitted, 1 journal manuscript prepared and undergoing submission soon, and 2 conference papers accepted. At the same time, I constantly remain myself updated on the newest research and administrative progress in nuclear engineering community, and keep opening to collaboration with different research areas.
