Bippes brings entrepreneurship & international work and study to WRS. Her recent work studies mechanisms of Saudi women’s matriculation to U.S. universities. Her passion lies in the interdisciplinary unification of applied linguistics, technology, & discovering silenced voices. She thrives on cross-curricular collaboration, and opportunities for virtual exchange (VE) / collaborative international online learning (COIL).

Biography

Originally from rural eastern Washington State, Brandy Bippes is Assistant Professor in Writing & Rhetoric Studies at the University of Utah Asia Campus and UAC English Language Lab Coordinator.

Professor Bippes completed her PhD coursework in Technical Communication & Rhetoric through Texas Tech University with a specialization in second language issues and a strong andragogical focus.

Her experience includes co-development of an international bridge pilot for colleges in Washington, directing a multi-site tutoring center, and editing several copy-left publications in writing across the curriculum. Her diverse background includes a focus in international andragogy, rhetoric, and applied linguistics (TESL), corporate training & business education, computer science, computer applications, and technical communication: a multi-talented rhetorician dedicated to simplifying complex communications tasks.

In her spare time, Professor Bippes likes to spend time outdoors—especially near plenty of trees and water. She loves to cook, sew, and play with her dog. A world traveler, she has lived, worked, studied, and researched in many countries. Korea was her 20th country to fall in love with—so far!
