Prior to Ned’s current role as an Internship Coordinator, he taught English in Japan through the JET Programme and worked as a Study Abroad Advisor and an Academic Advisor in the United States.
The breadth and depth of Ned’s educational and professional experiences in radically diverse cultural orientations on three continents make him an enthusiastic and empathetic advocate for all students so they can access resources and opportunities to supplement their collegiate experience.
When Ned is not working, he is either playing tennis, doing laps at a pool, exploring Salt Lake City, jogging, or learning how to “cook” a great meal from YouTube.
Philosophy of Engagement -
I have a grassroots appreciation for diversity, inclusion, and equity because of my lived experiences as a Nepalese-American in the U.S., Japan, and Australia. The combination of being in both culturally ambiguous and complex environments has allowed me to be comfortable with discomfort and become an effective people problem solver.
In my student engagements, I take a student-centered and equity-minded approach. The exchange of ideas and values is paramount for establishing trust, discussing your respective situation, and discovering appropriate next steps to ensure your professional success.

I have empathy for people’s lived experiences and aspirations, which informs how I take leadership roles with a non-judgmental, unassuming, and respectful approach. I welcome opportunities to engage in conversations with students, colleagues, parents or faculty that can also challenge my views, biases, and prejudices. I remain comfortable being uncomfortable. My diverse experiences in non-English speaking environments have also taught me that listening and observing first are critical for communication, building trust, and empathy.
On decision making – I value due diligence and intentionality.
* With administrative issues or projects, I examine previous actions taken by numerous stakeholders to learn from past successes and failures.
* With managing group dynamics, my approach is twofold: 1) to make individuals feel comfortable and valued and 2) ensure everyone is treated with respect.
