Teaching Philosophy
I believe that the broader purpose of education is to expand a student’s thinking and concepts and to create relationalities and cognitions about their world. When I begin teaching ballet students, I believe that each student should have the very best of what I am capable of giving. Every student should be given the opportunity to access the same information.
My primary goal for my students is to create learners that develop a self-motivated curiosity and love of their art. If I am able to successfully convey my lessons, the best outcomes would be that the students discover a passion for the dance, be it as a performer, teacher, or scholar. Once this is established, I aim to help each student more fully realize their own potential within dance, no matter the technical level.
It is my belief that one of the most effective methods for teaching is creating an atmosphere of trust within the studio and classroom that encourages questioning and movement exploration. The studio is a laboratory and a place of learning where methodologies are constantly being evaluated and updated.
As a teacher, I find, there will always be a few students that excel beyond our expectations, but to be able to reach students that either struggle or are trying to find their way, is equally gratifying.
