Research Summary

I am an historian of US education. I study the African American experience, student and teacher activism, the American high school, and curriculum and pedagogy. In particular, I am interested in the relationship between education and social change during the 20th century in the United States. My first book project, "Protest and Pedagogy," traces the contours of high school teachers' and students' activism within the Black freedom struggle of Charlottesville, Virginia.
