Research Summary

I have studied the effects of formal rules on changes in behavior in the presence of social norms. Specifically, I studied the impact of moderate and tough rules on changes in behavior and caste norms in rural India. Recently, I have been working on studying the effect of gender norms on occupational segregation.

Biography

Pavitra Govindan is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Utah. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University in May 2018. Her research interests include experimental and behavioral economics, development economics and applied game theory. Her research has focused on the effect of formal rules on social norm change and behavioral change. She is now expanding her expertise in social norms to study gender.
