Research Summary

The Gagnon lab applies modern genetic, genomic and imaging approaches to address classic questions in developmental and stem cell biology. We are particularly focused on the cell lineage tree - the structure of cell divisions that defines the composition of the organism. We are developing tools to record this tree with CRISPR genome editing. We want to determine how the lineage tree underlies vertebrate embryogenesis and the construction and maintenance of organs.
