Biography

Ashley ML Guajardo is an associate professor (lecturing) in the Division of Games where she teaches Games User Research; Introduction to Game Design; Games, Society, and Self and more. She completed her PhD at the University of Manchester in sociology in autumn 2013 before going on to teach at Brunel University London. She has won the Student-Led Teaching Award at Brunel University in 2015 and won the Early Career Teaching Award at the University of Utah in 2023. She is the author of the book Sexuality in Role-Playing Games. For a full list of publications, please see her website

Ashley previously co-directed the Games User Research and Experience SIG of the IGDA annual Summit, was the VP of the Global Game Jam Executive Board, and is an active GRUX SIG IGDA Mentor and an Institutional Review Board member.

When not teaching or doing research, she is hanging out with her family, 2 corgis, and 6 tarantulas. She also streams videogame analysis and user research methods over at Twitch.tv/Professor_Ashley
