Research Statement

My research has focused on workers’ well-being and inequality. Because the goals of labor unions are aligned with these topics, most of my studies examine the relationship between unions and labor market outcomes. In the U.S., public-sector unions are the backbone of labor unions (the average private-sector union membership rate was less than 6% while the rate in the public-sector was 33% in 2019), so naturally, my studies focus on unions in the public sector. Many of my studies look at the teachers’ labor market to take advantage of high-quality data from public school systems.
