Emily started her life in academia as a graduate student in Communication at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After two years as a teaching assistant and instructor, she embraced her passion for student affairs and entered a second master's program in Educational Leadership with a focus in Higher Education and Student Affairs. She spent several years as an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences at WMU before moving to Salt Lake City to become a Fine Arts advisor at the University of Utah. Her academic interests include self-efficacy in first-generation students, the value of a liberal arts education, as well as parasocial relationships in today's technological society.
