Biography

Carlos Santos-Rivera was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has a Bachelor's in Political Science from Iowa State University and is currently pursuing a Master's in City and Metropolitan Planning at the University of Utah. Carlos holds a position with the University of Utah as a teaching assistant and an apprentice position with the Salt Lake City Corporation Planning Department. Santos-Rivera's interests are equity in housing, transportation, disaster recovery, and urban politics. As a McNair Scholar, he published on housing informal reconstruction after Hurricane Maria in the Journal of Management in Engineering, Community & Regional Planning Proceedings, and the 17th Engineering Project Organization Conference Proceedings. Carlos hopes to pursue a Ph.D. and keep working hand and hand with underserved communities across the Pacific and the Caribbean.
