Biography

Mr. Jones has practiced environmental law for 25 years, with an emphasis in environmental litigation.  He has acted as lead counsel in cases presented in both state and federal trial courts (both to the bench and to a jury) state and federal appellate courts and administrative tribunals.  Mr. Jones has extensive experience litigating under CERCLA and its state-law equivalents, RCRA, NEPA and it state-law equivalents, the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act.  He has permitting experience under § 404, § 401 and defending permits in administrative litigation in both state and federal trial and appellate courts.  He has taken hundreds of fact and expert depositions, and has extensive trial experience in the presentation, cross-examination and Daubert proceedings involving environmental experts in both state and federal court.

Mr. Jones is the Past Chair of the Executive Board of the Washington State Bar Environmental and Land Use Section and was a Board Member of the Section from 2010-2013.  He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America© in Environmental Litigation since 2009 and named as a Super Lawyer by Thomas Reuters in Environmental Litigation since 2007.  He was a at the ABA’s Annual Environmental Conference (Keystone) in 2009 on the impact of NEPA on the 2009 Economic Recovery Bill, receiving award for Best Paper at the conference. He is also the former Editor, ABA Superfund and Natural Resources Litigation Newsletter (2008).

Prior to joining Holland & Hart, Mr. Jones was a partner at Marten Law PLLC and Foster Pepper, both located in Seattle, Washington.
