Research Summary

Dr. Zasowski is an astronomer whose research focuses on understanding how galaxies produce and redistribute the heavy elements that shape the universe and enable life in it. She uses data from large surveys of stars in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, as well as large surveys of other galaxies.

Biography

Dr. Zasowski received a B.S. in Physics from the University of Tennessee--Knoxville and a M.S./Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Virginia.  As an NSF Astronomy & Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow, she spent time at The Ohio State University and Johns Hopkins University before being awarded the inaugural Barry M. Lasker Data Science Research Fellowship at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, MD.  She moved to the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor in 2017 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. She also served as the Spokesperson for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V from 2017-2022, and was named a RCSA Cottrell Scholar in 2021.
