Teaching Philosophy: I believe that all students want to and are capable of learning. To achieve this, I believe that my role as an educator is to:
- Challenge and provide students with tools to learn that are accessible to all.
- Go beyond the standard curriculum, sharing my enthusiasm for the material and relating it to real life.
- Provide an inclusive and nurturing environment that fosters a growth mindset.
- Go beyond the standard curriculum, teaching students soft skills that are not traditionally taught but are very relevant in the workforce.
- Incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) into the curriculum so that students can appreciate the diversity issues in STEM and become leaders for change.
The philosophy is based on my own experiences as a student with ADHD, woman in chemistry, and educator. As my teaching has and continues to evolve, I always think back to my experiences, and try to put myself in the students’ shoes, thinking, what would work for me? For my friends?
