Biography

Alberta Comer holds a master of library science from Indiana University-Bloomington. She has served as Dean and University Librarian at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah since August 2013.  From 2014-2017 she served as an officer on the Salt Lake City Public Library’s Board of Directors. Formerly the Library Dean at Cunningham Memorial Library, Indiana State University, Alberta has served as editor of Indiana Libraries as well as editor of Cognotes, the daily paper of the American Library Association Conference. 

She is a member of the American Library Association, the American Indian Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries where she chairs the ARL Academy Advisory Group, and is the past chair of the Utah Academic Library Consortium. She has taught a short course at the Utah Asian Campus and is actively engaged in development fundraising efforts for the Marriott Library.

On the more personal side, Alberta grew up on a farm in eastern Oklahoma and is very proud of her Choctaw heritage. She is an avid hiker and runner and has completed two mini-marathons.
