Teaching Philosophy

I believe that education of students is an interactive process of idea sharing, working collaboratively in a problem-based learning environment, and a shared responsibility among faculty and students. The classroom environment must remain interactive and open to ongoing change based on students' feedback, learning needs and academic performance. Classes should draw on knowledge learned from prior courses and this content should be integrated into each course in order to present a holistic view of advanced nursing practice and roles. Multiple modalities for learning should be integrated to ensure success of students and to address the variety of ways in which students learn best. It is incumbent upon the faculty to stay abreast of current evidence and standards of practice through continued clinical involvement in their area of expertise, so as to present an authentic presence in the classroom or clinical site. It is incumbent upon the student to identify learning needs, be an active participant in the learning process, and become adept at using educational resources as an independent adult learner.
