Biography

John A. Pearce currently serves as General Counsel to Utah's seventeenth Governor, Gary R. Herbert. Prior to joining the Governor's Office in December 2009, he was a shareholder at Jones Waldo. John's practice focused on commercial litigation spanning a variety of practice areas, including securities fraud, antitrust, trade secret misappropriation and covenants not to compete. John also counseled clients concerning Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, as well as Utah's election and financial disclosure laws. John served on Jones Waldo's Board of Directors as well as its three-member Executive Committee, which oversees the day to day affairs of the firm. Before Jones Waldo, John worked for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in its Palo Alto, California office. John was born and raised in his father's home town of Magna, Utah, but made frequent and extended trips to his mother's hometown of Birtley in the North of England. In fact, John developed his lasting distaste of neckties, polyester pants and the arbitrary assertion of authority while attending the Lord Lawson school in Birtley. John graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah in economics and received his Juris Doctorate from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley.
