Biography
Kara Byrne is an Assistant Research Professor at the Social Research Institute at the College of Social Work. Her research interests include child traumatic stress and child welfare. She is also involved with Bridging Borders project (Dr. Rosemarie Hunter P.I.) in exploring the development of a social work degree program that bridges the borders of Thailand and Burma. Her past research has included community-based participatory action research and the evaluation of community-university partnerships. She enjoys working with interdisciplinary research teams and mentoring student research assistants.
Research Summary
Kara Byrne is a member of the Pediatric Integrated Post-Trauma Services (PIPS team), collaborating with Department of Pediatrics in the development and evaluation of the Care Process Model for Pediatric Traumatic Stress (CPM-PTS). She also oversees research and evaluation of the Utah Psychotropic Oversight Program (UPOP). Kara is working with the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) researching racial and ethnic disproportionality and disparity in Utah's DCFS.
