  • Dee Grant to bring in the noted music-theory pedagogue Matthew Santa from Texas Tech University. I have secured permission to extend the dates of this grant to the end of 2021. Due to travel restrictions - as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic - I was not able to bring in our this scholar for his residency last year. Dr. Matthew Santa completed a virtual residency in October of 2021. University of Utah, 02/24/2020
  • 1U4U Award for Interdisciplinary Research: In this cross-disciplinary project, we will create a precision digital therapy by integrating expertise in music, mobile health, and atmospheric sciences. Neurological effects of music are recognized as a means to improve treatments for refractory epilepsy. A dozen clinical studies report how listening to Mozart’s piano sonatas, K.448 and K.545, can significantly reduce seizures in people with epilepsy. We will apply music analysis to several Mozart compositions to create diverse playlists intended to reduce seizures. University of Utah, 01/31/2020
