Biography

Benji McMurray is an attorney in the Utah Federal Defender Office, where he represents indigent defendants in federal district and circuit courts. In 2008-09 he was a Supreme Court Fellow assigned to the U.S. Sentencing Commission, where he had previously served as Special Counsel. Mr. McMurray holds a B.A. in philosophy from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. Following law school, Mr. McMurray was a judicial clerk to Judge Paul G. Cassell on the United States District Court for the District of Utah, and he later clerked for Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He has taught sentencing and criminal procedure as an adjunct professor and has published in these areas.
