Courses I Teach

  • GEOG 3270/5270 - Biogeography: Global Patterns of Life
This course takes a detailed look at the present day distribution of all life forms on Earth and examines the factors that have led to this distribution, in particular plate tectonics, climate change, and human disturbance. The most recent techniques used by biogeographers are reviewed. A basic understanding of biology (botany, zoology, mammalogy) is required, and the lectures and discussions will assume that the class possesses such knowledge.
  • GEOG 5275/6275 - Vegetation and Climate Change
This graduate seminar explores recent and late Quaternary linkages between vegetation and climate variability. Students will be expected to lead discussions on peer-reviewed literature covering topics on; plant migrations, plant evolution, paleoecology and conservation biology, natural disturbance, prehistoric landscapes and future vegetation dynamics
  • GEOG 6410 - Paleoclimatology
Paleoclimatology is the study of climate prior to the period of instrumental measurements. A longer perspective on past climate variability provide a basis for understanding current and future climatic change.
