Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is based on my life experiences, personal values, and approach to life. As such, it is a composite of personal beliefs. I believe teaching is an honor, earned through a constant quest for knowledge and the motivation to share it with others. I believe teaching is a time-honored tradition; as such, I am duty-bound to uphold the values of those teachers who have come before me. Society needs teachers as much as the scientist, the nurse, the plumber, and all other professions that are needed for society to function and move forward as a whole. I believe teaching is a commitment, which to me is defined as being bound emotionally and intellectually to a course of action. My lifelong pursuit of knowledge and teaching, personally as well as professionally, results in an intertwining of ideals that carry over to my interaction with my students and others whom I work with. I believe that being a teacher is to instill a love of knowledge in others and that I have as much to learn from my students as they do from me. My desire is that my students will someday share what they have learned with their own students.
